Ad Analysis: Coke Couples
True to their fashion, the folks down at Coke installed this cute little interactive ad in honor of Valentines Day. If a pair of people walk past the installation, the computer asks for the names of the couple, there is a graffiti styled cartoon short of hearts and explosions and ends with the couple receiving two cans of Coke. The cartoon then quickly disappears, waiting to be activated by the next two people to walk by. As the video shows, it will only work for a pair next to one another.
While the intended theme seems to be romantic and targeted to a pair of lovebirds, the overall message is "Share a Coke" with anyone. How eager would someone be to grab a (friendly looking) stranger passing by just to get a chance to activate the machine? Coca Cola is always finding innovative ways to inspire happiness and invoke the feeling of friendship. The one thing I love about Coke installation ads and commercials is that I get so excited watching them! Seeing the people genuinely happy makes me want to go out and find these locations so I can enjoy the experience. At the end of the day, its the sentiment, not the soda.
