I once knew a girl in the Creative Sequence at UT. She had been in the program for a semester, I myself had not yet applied. Anyway, all she could talk about was the sequence. It was borderline obsessive! In a class we shared, all she spoke about was the creative sequence assignments and work. Most of the time she appeared to be running strictly on energy drinks and if she took a moment to rest, she would've probably klunked out.
Upon entering the sequence I knew I didn't want to be like that girl, rather it would've been in class or in the workforce. Is the sequence challenging and time consuming. Yes, absolutely and the industry is worse. You are only as good as your last ad. But, having a life and interest outside of the industry is very important. Sometimes a hobby is the one thing saving you from burning out, hell maybe even dying. Also, extracurricular activities are often the source of inspiration for your next campaign. A phrase, a color palette, a dance, funny joke, all these can spark great ideas. So please, on your quest to advertising creative ad awards to your wall, put a little time aside for yourself to have fun.
Here is so things I found inspirational while in class one day.
