Ad + Pop Culture

Perhaps it was Andy Warhol who was the first person to explicitly show how throughly America's culture is engrained and defined by the objects around them. Even though his Campbell soup cans were not his first produced works of art they are none the less icon and often the most common piece associated with his name (besides the Marylin Monroe piece). Popculture influences advertising, and in the same breath advertising influeces popular culture. This is something I was not quiet aware of when I chose this field to study. I intialy choose advertising because I needed a way to merge art and business. I had a passion for all things creative and weird but didn't see myself as that artist striving to be in a gallery. Am I a sell out? Yeah, I probably am.
