I think I want to start a Mommy Blog. I think this might be more of an effective outlet than all the things I post on social media.
Mom blogs have become sort of a trendy juggernaut, and at first I was a bit hesitant to add my own admits the endless see of of sites struggling to garner attention. Do I have anything to write about? What is my ultimate goal? How to do I even start to raise awareness for my site? Questions which I do not yet have answers for. I think initially people may have their own ideas of what kind of person writes a "mommy blog". For the uninformed, it may ring reminiscent of a woman who would've thrown Tubberwear parties; a social butterfly/salesperson/domestic guru. For informed, they may think of a middle class, married white woman that may have ditched the corporate life for a domestic one with the kids. While the latter rings a little more true to the right demographics, it still is a narrow definition of mom bloggers that are out there. There are special need mom blogs, crafty mom blogs, foodie mom blogs, crunchy mom blogs, DIY mom blogs, frugal mom blogs, adoptive mom blogs...the list goes on and on. I think women reaching out to others across the world via social networking is a really beautiful thing. Its almost like group therapy.
for many, myself included, the journey of motherhood is a a turbulent one. In less than a year, a woman will go through a lifetime of emotions and experiences as she prepares to be responsible for another human life.
I don't think you feel the weight of those words:
Another. Human. Life.
I could barely handle taking care of a rabbit, the thought of being responsible for a fragile little infant shook me to my core. I often felt alone as no one understood me, as I was one of the few parents attending graduate school and balancing work and marriage at the same time. My own mother was across the U.S., so I was left to the internet and my own devices as I tried to get a handle on motherhood. As I searched more, I found Mom blogs to be a rich resource of knowledge I could tap into again and again. It made me think about things I never considered as a first time mom. For example, the pros and cons of breast feeding, what is co sleeping, sign language for babies and other stuff you own contemplate when growing a fetus. Now that my baby is older, I learned that every experience is different, but having he luxury of other people sharing their story with you really helps. Maybe I could help someone else?
